Malaysia is extremely blessed, geographically and resources-wise.
Not only does Malaysia escape the volcanic Ring of Fire, but it also happens to be in the Golden Triangle of diving mecca.
In this video we present the 10 best places to dive in Malaysia.

Malaysia has many dive jewels like Sipadan, which frequently is regarded as one of the top international must-visit dive sites.
So, whether you’re looking for the elusive whale shark, friendly turtles, or to get caught in a vortex of barracuda, check out this list of where and when to dive in Malaysia.
Ask any diver and Sipadan is sure to be somewhere on their bucket list of dive sites.
1. Sipadan Island.
Sipadan Island and the nearby Mabul and Kapalai islands (referred to as the Golden Triangle) offer a fantastic variety of dive types, depending on your interest.
Mabul, for instance, is famous for great muck diving, while Kapalai is said to be one of the world’s best macro dive sites.
The best time to visit these Islands is April to December, but, especially between May and August.
2. Lankayan Island, Sabah.
There are over 20 dive sites including several wrecks and small reefs around the Lankayan Island area.
From nudibranchs to whale sharks, Lankayan is popular amongst divers and houses many big fish species.
The best time to dive is March to October.
3. Layang-Layang Island, Sabah.
Layang-Layang Island is about 300km northwest of Kota Kinabalu and it used to be a naval base.
Don’t expect there to be any beautiful beaches there, as you won’t find any, although, the dive experience here is more than enough to get excited.
The best time to visit is March to October.
4. Mataking Island, Sabah.
By now it should be obvious that Sabah is one of the best places to visit for amazing diving.
So, if you have only one dive trip in Malaysia, this is the place to go!
There are more than 30 dive sites in the area.
Definitely don’t miss the House Reef, The Shipwreck, and Sweetlips Avenue for great macro life.
The best time is February to November (February is low season, while August is peak), April to June for the best visibility and possible whale shark sightings and May to August for green and hawksbill turtles.
There is an abundance of sea life to give you a lasting memory.
House Reef, you will encounter frogfish, octopus, lionfish, stonefish, and ribbon eels.
The Shipwreck, you can see Giant moray eels, stingrays, hammerheads, manta rays, eagle rays, and whale sharks. 5. Redang Island, Terengganu.
There are more than 20 dive sites including shore entry, wall and deep diving options.
Redang is located within the coral triangle, which spans Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and the Philippines.
Dive sites within this triangle are known to have the highest number of marine species in the world.
The best times to dive are, April to October, but (especially May to September).
Be amazed with your diving experience when you encounter these marine creatures.
Tunnel Point, Bumphead parrotfish, small barracudas, jacks, and nudibranchs.
Tanjung Tokong, you will find Green turtles, hawksbill turtles, jacks, snappers, napoleon wrasses, fusiliers, nudibranchs, flatworms, and the occasional shark.
Chek Isa (Mini Mount). Cowries, spider shells, colourful Christmas tree worms, angelfish, parrotfish, wrasses, groupers, schooling batfish, and other reef dwellers.
A fantastic site for night diving!
6. Perhentian Island, Terengganu.
Perhaps one of the most famous dive spots in the Malaysian Peninsula apart from Redang, Perhentian is usually where student divers go to get their diving certificates.
The waters here are shallow with excellent visibility and marine life, so, that can be enjoyed by divers of all levels.
You can also experience night diving here.
The best time to dive is April to October.
You will see, big fish species, turtles, reef sharks, manta rays, scorpion fish, snappers, bamboo sharks, blacktip reef sharks, possible sightings of whale sharks, and so much more.
