The statement, which said they believe that this is "a moral issue about the right to life, which transcends religion", made no mention of the Holocaust, but was accompanied by a photo of the seven leaders - Christian, Muslim, and Jewish - standing by the Holocaust memorial in Commonwealth Park.
This was criticised by Together Gibraltar leader, Marlene Hassan Nahon, who said this demonised Gibraltar's women; and by Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, who said it was "distasteful, disrespectful and unacceptable". GSD leader, Keith Azopardi, also described it as "deeply inappropriate" in a post on his Facebook page.
GBC's Christina Cortes spoke to Chief Rabbi, Ronnie Hasid, and Reverend Fidel Patron of the Methodist Church, who were representing the seven leaders. She first put to them Ms Hassan Nahon's statement that the Holocaust comparison meant comparing pregnant women, some in difficult circumstances, to Nazis.
