Push to list Hezbollah’s military wing as a terrorist group ‘doesn’t go far enough’

Push to list Hezbollah’s military wing as a terrorist group ‘doesn’t go far enough’ The push by to ban Hezbollah's military wing is "well intentioned” but "simply doesn’t go far enough” according to the Australian/Israel and Jewish Affairs council's Dr Colin Rubenstein.

Security Agencies are expected to brief Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton this month on whether Hezbollah’s military wing should be considered a terrorist group.

Bar New Zealand, Australia is the only country in the Five Eyes security alliance not to label Hezbollah a terrorist organisation.

The push comes after a Sydney man could not be declared a high list terrorist offender because he was a follower of Hezbollah.

Mr Rubenstein told Sky News the organisation's military and political arms are "two wings of the same bird”.

"We are behind here in a bad way, precisely at a time where Hezbollah is becoming emboldened across the Middle East and internationally," he said.
