SBI scraps minimum balance in savings accounts In good news for 44.51 crore State Bank of India customers on Wednesday, India's largest public lender, has decided to do away with minimum balance requirements in savings accounts. Currently, SBI Savings Bank customers needs to maintain a minimum balance of Rs 3000, Rs 2000 and Rs 1000 in Metro, Semi Urban and Rural areas respectively. Additionally, SBI has also waived off SMS charges for its customers. In another key decision, SBI has rationalised the interest rate on savings bank accounts to a flat 3% per annum.
